We are often asked why we chose Axis Yoga as the name for our school.
In order to lead happy contented lives we need to develop the skills necessary to bring balance to our lives. We must ensure that no single aspect is allowed to dominate the others. Imagine the axis of symmetry of a set of scales in perfect balance...
In an increasingly hectic world, with mounting pressures and sources of stress and anxiety, we must develop inner stillness. Imagine the point of stillness at the centre of a storm: the calm axis of rotation about which the maelstrom churns. Our bodies are often mistreated. We often regard them in the same way we treat a car or other physical possession: pushed to its limit, sent off for repair when something fails. Our skeleton supports us and protects our most delicate organs. The axis is the vertebra in our neck that allows our head to move. From the largest galaxy, to the smallest atom, everything turns. Rotation causes our tides and our seasons. The axis is the most fundamental property shared by all of nature. The axis is a principal line of movement, development and growth. Which direction will you turn next? |
